Begin your book with a Planner.
If you are writing a series of
related novels, begin by entering your series title.
In this case 'The Lord of the Rings'. A single
Liquid Story Binder 'Book' can be used to organize and
write an entire series of novels. Create one Planner
for each of your novels.
Enter the title of your
book.
By entering the title of
your book, file creation and organizing is simplified.
In a large project with many files, this allows you to
locate content quickly.
As you will see, like-named
files play an important role in Liquid Story Binder.
These like-named files are called an 'Association'.
|
|
|
Create a Builder to
store important book-related facts and reference material.
Within the Planner, select the
title of your book or series.
Choose 'New Builder' from
the Planner's 'Create' menu.
A Builder, based on the
currently selected Planner item, will be created. |
|
|
Use this book-entitled Builder to store plot summaries,
reference material, and notes.
Think of this particular
Builder as an encyclopaedia.
The screenshot to the left
displays two Builders -- one series-entitled, one
book-entitled. |
|
|
As you add more and more information to your book, try
creating a reference Workspace.
Workspaces
preserve file and window positioning.
In the screenshot, notice
the title of the new Workspace being created. By
adding a period to the beginning of the filename, the file
is sure to be placed at the top of the Workspace menu
list.
Try creating Workspaces for
brainstorming, outlining, or even maps. |
|
|
Step 1:
Planning: Plotting your novel.
For each one of your Chapters,
begin by outlining your major plot points.
Liquid Story Binder XE has
five different file types to help you plot your book.
Use the file type that works best for you.
Within the Planner, select
your first Chapter. From the Planner's 'Create'
menu, choose either a Checklist, Outline, Timeline,
Sequence or Storyboard. Use this file to plan your
Chapter. |
|
|
Use the same method to create a chapter-specific Gallery
containing chapter-related images.
Also, with a large project
containing many chapters, try creating a chapter-specific
Dossier to summarize chapter contents.
|
|
|
Step 2:
Writing: Turn your ideas into Chapters.
To create a new Chapter,
simply double-click any item within the Planner.
In the screenshot, notice
that...
Once a Chapter has been
created, its title is no longer indented within the
Planner.
The 'Association' item is
selected from the Chapter's 'File' menu. |
|
|
Associations
Associations allow you to quickly locate and create
like-named files.
Find your Chapter's
Checklist or Outline without having to search through an
extensive Planner or File Listing. Associations help
reduce confusion, and keep your Workspaces clutter-free.
Associations also allow you
to rename multiple files quickly. By renaming an
Association, your outlining and backup files are renamed
alongside their parent Chapter -- saving you a great deal
of time and lost work.
Almost all file types have
an 'Association' menu item. Chapter's and Builders
also have 'Association' icons in their toolbars --
allowing you to quickly access your files.
|
|
|
Use the 'Association' dialog to create a chapter-entitled
Builder to store important clips.
Often when editing or re-writing a draft, you may wish to
preserve a well-written paragraph or preserve a piece of
misplaced foreshadowing -- use this chapter-entitled
Builder to save misplaced content. |
|
|
Listings With
large projects, you may wish to create a
Listing.
Customizable Listings sort files using a collapsible tree
and are great for organizing non chapter-related
documents.
To quickly create a
Listing...
Select your book title within the Planner. Choose 'New Listing' from
the 'Create' menu. |
|
|
Use a Listing to sort your character and setting Dossiers.
Organize your reference notes
and images.
Create a Workspace just for
file organizing, displaying your Planners and Listings. |
|
|
Step 3:
Building: Manuscript Building.
At long last, you have
finished writing your book.
From the Planner's
'Manuscript' menu, choose 'Build Manuscript'.
|
|
|
Choose your preferred manuscript options and click 'Build
Manuscript'. Liquid
Story Binder XE will now format your work, removing line
notes and unwanted editing, and combine all your Chapters
into a single document. |
|
|
Once Liquid Story Binder XE has built your manuscript, you can
choose to print, copy, save and even export the entire document. |
|
|
Remember...
Always, always, always
backup your books!! |
